LAHORE: Former members of the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Punjab (MPAs) Saleem Khurshid Khokhar (the Sindh Assembly), Joel Aamir and Pervez Rafique (both from the Punjab Assembly), strongly condemned the incident where extremists killed a Christian couple in Kasur by burning them alive, a press release said.

The statement said that Christian woman named Shama Bibi and her husband named Shahzad Masih, were burnt alive in a brick kiln by a Muslim mob on allegations of blasphemy on last Tuesday. Police sources said Shahzad and her wife Shama Bibi came to Chak 59 for earning a livelihood.

“On the fateful day, the owner of the kiln,Yousuf Gujjar, locked them in a room and levelled different allegations against them regarding non-payment of advance money and gathered villagers also. Later, the infuriated villagers threw them in the brick kiln and set them one fire while still alive,” the statement added.

“Blasphemy law should be repealed because of being misused in Pakistan,” it said.
