While many media outlets may have moved on from Alan Henning's murder, a local Muslim group has vowed to keep the appeal for his family in the headlines with a generous £1000 donation to his memorial fund.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Association were so touched by the work that Alan was doing as a volunteer aid worker in Syria, helping poor families in need, that they decided to show their gratitude with the gift.

The Telegraph reports today that Alan's brutal murder on Friday 3 October - released on video by terror group Isis - may have saved thousands of lives as it has put off potential jihadists from joining the fight in Iraq and Syria.

Alan had been warned not to travel to Syria because of the outbreak of fighting there, but was on his fourth convoy with a Muslim aid charity when he was captured by Isis - also known as IS or ISIL - on Boxing Day 2013.

Anti-radicalisation mentor Sulaimaan Samuel told Sky News today: "I would personally say to Alan Henning's family: do not think his death has been some type of waste because it hasn't, because his death at the hands of IS is the very thing that has caused the Muslim community to realise that what IS stands for is wrong and can never be condoned."

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association's northern fundraising co-ordinator Arif Ahmad said: "Our motto is 'Love for All - Hatred for None'.

"That's a principle that we live by, and there's no greater example through Alan's aid work of breaking down barriers between communities.

"There are so many lessons from Alan's life that we can all learn upon. First of all, not discriminating on the basis of race or religion.

"Alan was helping families who were oppressed overseas, and I think we should all be reminded of the work that he was doing on a regular basis."

The association, which is over 100 years old and has 107 branches throughout the country, wants to use the opportunity to help spread the message of tolerance and peace which real Islam - corrupted by extremists Isis - subscribes to.

It is holding its 11th annual Peace Symposium on Saturday 8 November at the largest mosque in Western Europe - the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden, Surrey.

"IS in Syria and Iraq represents a brutal regime which we believe has no connection to Islam whatsoever," said Mr Ahmad.

Many hundreds of dignitaries, religious leaders and community leaders will be attending and International Development cabinet minister Justine Greening is one of the keynote speakers.

Prominent Muslim scholars from across the globe condemned the action by Isis, and his local mosque repeatedly called for his release.

The Alan Henning Memorial Family Fund, set up by SalfordOnline.com and Salford City Council, has now reached almost £10,000.

Other generous fundraising in the local community has also pushed the total above £20,000.

After raising the idea with David Cameron at Prime Minister's Questions, Alan's local MP Barbara Keeley is still pushing for a national bravery award in his memory and we will bring you more news of that as it breaks.
