Nigeria: Stop preaching violence says Ahmadiyya Ameer, Dr. Mashhud Fashola


The purpose of religion is to develop and promote attainment of piety and nearness to God which should not be used as a tool of violence but a tool for national development.

Religious leaders have been urged to stop preaching violence but progress, peace, stability and welfare of the people.

This advice was given in Abuja at the 4th Northern Region Jalsa Tarbiya Conference on Islamic education and moral traning of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Nigeria .

In his address, the Amir, Dr. Mashhud Fashola, noted that the essence of the gathering is to preach and teach members and the public, moral and religious education on ways of becoming exemplary role model in every aspect of life, particularly national leadership.

According to him, the purpose of religion is to develop and promote attainment of piety and nearness to God which should not be used as a tool of violence but a tool for national development.

Revd Oche Job of Methodist Cathedral of Unity, noted that all religions seems to be one saying that the greatest problem in this country was lack of knowledge. “We need religious tolerance and never to look down on one religion.”

Also, former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalam Abubarkar was honoured with ‘peace award’ for his efforts along with other Nigerians, at ensuring that Nigeria enjoyed a stable, peaceful and successful political transition.

Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion include; Deputy Amir, Northern Region, Dr. Yekeen Habeeb, Parish priest, Catholic Arc diocese of Abuja, Rev. Fr. Willy Ojukwu, Dr. Isreal Abido, National President progressive Judaism amongst other.
