Imam Janud of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria presented a copy of the Holy Quran to the newly appointed Chief Commissioner Victoria Police
On 1 July 2015, Syed Wadood Janud, Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria attended an Iftar dinner hosted by the Victoria Police where he met the newly appointed Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Mr Graham Ashton.
The dinner marked the breaking of fast in Ramadan and provided an opportunity for members of the Victorian Police to broaden their understanding of Islam and build ties with the wider Muslim community in Victoria.
More than 120 distinguished guests attended the evening that included heads of the leading Islamic organisations in Victoria, various faith representatives and several Police liaison officers from across Victoria.
Praising the efforts of Victoria Police for hosting a successful dinner, Imam Janud said, “It is encouraging and pleasing to see Victoria Police integrating with the wider community, especially the Muslims. The dinner provides a platform for building bridges of understanding and mutual trust. It is heartening to see Muslim youths feeling recognised and involved, and their voices heard.”
At the end of the dinner, Imam Janud personally met Mr Graham Ashton to thank him on his new appointment as Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police and for kindly organising this dinner as a means to express his friendship and close relationship with the Muslim Community.
Speaking to the Commissioner, Imam Janud said:
“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Victoria has long enjoyed close ties with Victoria Police, and stands by all law enforcement authorities in keeping this beloved country of ours safe, from both internal and external threats.”
Thereafter Imam Janud presented Mr Ashton with a gift of the Holy Quran as a gesture of appreciation. In response Mr Ashton commented that it was an honour to host the Iftar dinner, his first official duty as new Chief Commissioner, and looked forward to working with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Victoria.
