Muslims around the world are fasting in this month of Ramadan.
This spiritual exercise is found in all faiths as stated in the Holy Quran 2:184. This is the period when man is expected to eschew vices and develop good virtues like charity and giving freely and generously to his fellow human beings to win the pleasure of his maker.
Hazrat Masroor Ahmad, the khalifa of Islam and the head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community states:
"When fasting is based on righteousness, it produces a beautiful society, creating a spirit of sacrifice for each other. One is drawn to the needs of one's underprivileged brothers, and this is important because it was the blessed model of the holy prophet of Islam."
During fasting, one has to stay away from all indecency. If not, one succeeds in making themselves hungry and thirsty and nothing more. It is unfortunate people who call themselves Muslims will kill fellow human beings in this holy month, such as the recent events that occurred in France, Tunisia and Kuwait. They fail to realize even indulging in unbecoming speech nullifies the objective of fasting as taught by the Holy Prophet of Islam.
