The Conservative Party is to investigate a series of social media posts made by a Runnymede Borough councillor, which appeared to contain anti-Muslim and racist references.

Englefield Green ward councillor Mike Kusneraitis posted a number of images relating to Muslims on a private Egham residents’ group on Facebook in July and August.

The posts included a sexually explicit cartoon, as well as a photo of a dog wearing a towel.

Another image on the Peoples Front of Egham (Residents) v2.0 page details a history of condoms where a member of the group comments the post had been removed by Facebook, to which Cllr Kusneraitis wrote: “ah well have to look for more he he.”

Another post shared by the Tory on July 24 shows a number of naked women on a boat with a caption: “If Carlsberg done illegal immigrants...”

Chairman of the Runnymede and Weybridge Conservative Association Peter Taylor said: “At the moment I have not got a comment to make because I’ve only just seen it [the images]. I need to consult with people.”

Posting on the group's Facebook page on Friday morning (August 28), Cllr Kusneraitis said it was never his intention to offend or upset anyone and apologised sincerely and wholeheartedly.

"Anyone who knows me knows that I am not and have never been a racist," he wrote.
...
He Added: "People who attended the Amnesty International's Magna Carta lecture in June saw me stand up and publicly defend Muslims and those of all faiths and I have been honoured to be invited to attend Muslim peace symposiums and feel privileged to have spent last Saturday at the Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

"Judge me by my actions in the community not by a misjudged post on social media."
