The Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Nigeria, Dr. Mashhud Adenrele Fashola has urged Muslims and political office holders to reflect on the lessons of the Eid-il-Adha. In his Eid-il-Adha message made available to Vanguard, Dr Fashola stated the Muslims and political office holders should emulate the truthfulness and courage in defence of true faith in One God and Lord of all Creation and strict aversion to the worship of idols exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, adding that that would be the only headway in all worldly endeavour.

“The legacy of Abraham requires that Muslims pursue truth, justice, and anti-corruption policy first before any other issue. Those who downplay the anti-corruption crusade but emphasise the economy should be reminded that it is necessary to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and its righteousness, before we can make headway with the economy.”

He continued:”Eid-il-Adha is the celebration or commemoration in Islam of Holy Abraham (Peace be on him) as a model of Faith for all mankind. “Four things about Holy Abraham are still critically relevant even today that we need to remind ourselves about, as directed by Allah: “(i)Abraham’s truthfulness and courage in defence of true faith in One God and Lord of all Creation and strict aversion to the worship of idols as a most senseless custom;
“(ii)Abraham’s complete submission to the Gracious Lord, whose Grace encompasses all, in the sense of selflessly serving the interest of all creation with equity as opposed to the pursuit of self-interest, ethnicity, racism, and all kinds of discrimination, for such is the way of the Devil, declared in the Holy Qur’an as a Rebel to the Gracious (“Oh my father, do not worship the Devil, for the Devil is indeed a Rebel to the Gracious” Q.19:46);
being a Rebel to the Gracious, the Devil opposes all actions that graciously and equitably benefit all creation, that unite all mankind, that uphold equality, justice and fairplay; rather, the Devil supports and promotes inequality, injustice, inhumanity, disorder, discrimination, disharmony, and disunity;
“(iii)Steadfastness in the face of extreme persecution with unflinching faith as well as enduring all trials in the way of Allah; “(iv)Great concern for divine guidance, moral and spiritual well-being of future generations.

Abraham’s legacy implies that we must promote the well-being of all and ensure a social system that gives equal rights and opportunities to all without any discrimination whatsoever for that is the import of submissiveness to the Gracious, whose Grace excludes none as well as any social, political or economic programme that benefits only those who are well connected to political office holders or other influential members of society is of the Devil and rebellious to the Gracious.
