The worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community issued a statement today expressing utter shock at the numbers of deaths occurred  earlier in the day in Saudi Arabia during one of the holy pilgrimage rituals.

The Ahmadiyya statement was referring to the stampede that broke out on Thursday in the tent city of Mina during a Hajj pilgrimage ritual, killing at least 717 and injuring nearly 900 others, as reported by Saudi Arabia’s civil defense.

"All members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community have been left deeply shocked and grieved to hear of today’s tragic stampede in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where hundreds of worshippers lost their lives and many others were injured," said Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at in a statement posted on the community's press and media website. "We offer our sincerest condolences and sympathies to all those who have been affected by this devastating tragedy."

"[We] pray that may God Almighty grant a full recovery to all of those who have been injured."

The tragedy in Mana', the Al-Arabia News says, was "the deadliest to strike the annual Hajj pilgrimage since 1990, where 1,426 Muslim pilgrims were trampled to death."
