Ahmadiyya Muslim Association host huge family event
Families celebrated Eid-Ul-Adhia – or the ‘big eid’ – with prayers, sacrifice and gifts.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association in Huddersfield marked the end of the blessed month of hajj – the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca – with an event at the Baitul Tauhid, at The Pavilion, Spaines Road, Fartown.
Muslims must perform the hajj at least once in their lifetime.
During the three days of eid families celebrate together. Children wear new clothes and receive gifts and families feast and share food with friends and neighbours.
Munir Ahmed, president of the association’s Huddersfield North branch, said Eid-Ul-Adhia was a time to reflect.
“Everyone is on a journey to self-righteousness and to come as close to God as you can,” he said. “You reap the rewards by being humble and being good.”
