#PrayForParis – This is a hashtag that has been trending on social media since the latest attacks in Paris. It is also the voice of 99.9% Muslims who are not terrorists. This is the voice of 1.6 billion people, which is 22% of the world population. This is the voice of these Muslims who, whenever they hear about any kind of violent act around the world, first pray, “Oh God, don’t let him be a Muslim.”
Unfortunately, due to the actions of a few extreme individuals who’ve taken it upon themselves to do the most heinous crimes in the name of Islam, the religion has been associated with extremism and terrorism. Tragic events such as the attack on the twin towers in New York on 9/11, the bombings of London and now the Paris attacks on the eve of November 13, 2015 are assumed to be justified by Islam in the minds of some people.
This idea has been promoted further by many media channels, which defame Islam by portraying these bombers as ‘Islamists’ or ‘Jihadists’, as though they were endorsed by Islam, or had any legitimate support on behalf of Muslims. The yardstick by which Islam is judged should not be the actions of a few fanatical individuals who happen to have Muslim names or attribute themselves to the Muslim faith. For the same reason, that one would not do justice to Christianity if it were perceived as sanctioning the genocide of the Native Americans or the atrocities of World War II.
To better understand Islam’s stance on terrorism, one must refer to its original sources, the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, which are clear in their prohibition of any form of injustice including that of hateful violence which seeks to instill fear, injury or death to civilians.
The Holy Quran, the sacred book for Muslims, turns our attention to the high value of human life, whether it is Muslim or non-Muslim and makes it absolutely forbidden to take an innocent life unjustly. The gravity of such a crime is compared in the Quran with the killing of all humanity.
“We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land – it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people...” (5:33)
The founder of Islam, Holy Prophet Muhammad (on whom be peace) said, “Do you know what is better than charity and fasting and prayer? It is keeping peace and good relations between people, as quarrels and bad feelings destroy mankind.”
He also taught, “Loyalty to homeland is part of faith.” It is for this reason that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Belize takes pride in being Belizean Muslims and peaceful citizens of Belize. Ever since we have started our mission in Belize about two years ago, all we have been doing is spreading love and peace, in fact our worldwide famous motto is, “Love for all, hatred for none.”
We the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at (Community) of Belize strongly condemn the attacks in Paris and all other violent acts which happened in the name of Islam. The word ISLAM means “peace”. A true believer doesn’t even hurt the feeling of another individual let alone taking an innocent life. We are praying for the victims that may God Almighty have mercy on them.

The World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has condemned last night’s terrorist attacks in Paris.
Speaking from London, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has said:
“On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community worldwide, I express my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the French nation, its people and government following the heinous terrorist attacks that have taken place in Paris. This brutal and inhumane attack can only be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
“I would also like to reiterate that all forms of terrorism and extremism are completely against the true teachings of Islam. The Holy Quran has said that to kill even one innocent person is akin to killing all of mankind. Thus under no circumstances can murder ever be justified and those who seek to justify their hateful acts in the name of Islam are serving only to defame it in the worst possible way.
“Our sympathies and prayers are with the victims of these attacks and all those who have been left bereaved or affected in any way. May God Almighty grant patience to them all and I hope and pray that the perpetrators of this evil act are swiftly brought to justice.”
