We are not safe. No one is safe in any country of the world. The most recent horrible atrocities of Paris, Beirut and Baghdad are examples how radicals use the name of sacred religious teachings to gain licence to kill. And that's a nature of criminals — criminals will exploit any teaching to obtain their objectives — may they be religious or otherwise. Whereas we all know that every religion teaches love and compassion and vows to provide peace and security.

Religious teachers and leaders need to step up in their role as guardians of followers of faiths to inculcate teachings of love and compassion for all humans belonging to any faith tradition or no-faith tradition. When minds — especially young ones — are being radicalized so quickly and so easily, what are religious teachers and leaders doing to anti-radicalize or to prevent radicalization?

Recently held in Guelph, the World Religions Conference's theme "Tackling Radicalization in Faiths" is a timely example on what we should be doing. Faith leaders should address the issue of radicalization in faiths in mosques, synagogues, churches, gurdwaras and temples. Unless there is sufficient teachings and moulding of minds against radicalization, we cannot be sure of a safe future on this planet.
