A TEAM of over 75 volunteers led by clients from a Luton homeless charity Signposts braved the elements last Saturday (November 14) to clear litter from the River Lea.
For the third year running a number of local community groups came together to tidy the town's beloved river, collecting 150 bags of rubbish in the process.
Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, The Rotary Club of Luton, The Zimbabwe Community Group, Signposts and the University of Bedfordshire all worked to clear more than 350 sq ft.
Signposts' clients had a key role in the project, working together to co-ordinate work, distribute equipment and manage smaller groups of volunteers.
Signposts Community leader, Jasmine Beary, said: "We were absolutely thrilled with the amount of volunteers who came out full of enthusiasm on such a cold and wet day.
"This fantastic achievement would not have been possible without the sheer determination of all of our fantastic local community volunteers.
"We're delighted to have been able to help make the River Lea a cleaner and safer place for everyone in Luton to enjoy."
