Canadian Muslim women have launched a national campaign called #JeSuisHijabi in an effort to help others understand their identity, and their religion.

Since the attacks in Paris, there have been a few reported hate crimes targeting Muslim women in Toronto.

The organizers of the campaign, a group called The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada, believes most of the attacks are caused by fear and a lack of understanding.

They’re hosting events, including workshops, to teach people about Muslim culture.

“This campaign allows for Canadians to come together and engage in peaceful public dialogue to foster a better understanding of the Islamic faith,” Amtul Noor Daud, the national president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association, said.

At universities in Saskatoon and Newfoundland, Muslim women asked other women to try on their hijabs. They also encouraged them to ask questions about their faith.
