Efforts by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria to ensure the preservation of the Holy Qur’an through memorization by young boys and girls within the age bracket of nine to 13 years are yielding result with the graduation, recently, of 48 students who have memorised the holy Qur’an.

The school, Madrassatul Tahfidhil Qur’an at Ilaro, Ogun State is tuition-free and owned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Nigeria, while in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State is another Qur’an Memorization school, fee paying and privately owned  by group  of Ahmadis, owners of  Mahmuud Ahmadiyya College. Al-Ahsar College, Lokoja, Kogi State is another private school producing Hufaadz under the guidance of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at.

Last Sunday, Madrassatul Tahfidhil-Qur’an at Ilaro graduated 48 students who had committed the Qur’an into memory. The ceremony was held at the Missionaries Training College, Jamia, Ilaro. Earlier in October, the Ijede Tahfidhil  Quran school under the auspices of Mahmud College graduated nine students.

The Hufaaz consisting of 38 hafiz (male) and 10 hafizah (female) were between the age of nine and 13 while the overall best graduating student in the male category, Habeebullah Adeyemi completed the Qur’an recitation within eight months and nine days while Badmos Rasheedat, the overall best graduating student in the female category completed the recitation of the holy Qur’an within one year, four months and four days.

Maulvi AbdulKhaliqq Nayyar, the Ahmadiyya Missionary in charge of Nigeria who doubled as Chairman of the occasion, appealed to the graduands to maintain the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an by reciting a part of it every day. Adding, “By doing so, they won’t forget what they have learnt at the school. The best way to achieve this is to impart the knowledge of the Holy Qur’an to the younger ones and they would be blessed in return.”

Speaking further, he said, “Muslims should be in the best position to change positively, the behaviours of everyone through the display of good virtues of the Holy Qur’an after its memorisation.” He advised the parents of the graduands to ensure that their children recite a part of the Qur’an in their presence every day.

Also, the Deputy National Amir, Special Duties, Alhaji Ahmed Alhassan said the Hafiz and Hafizah were able to assimilate the Qur’an, hence, they now belong to a special class of people. Their popularity has gone beyond this country. However, this assumption would not be carried along until their parents guide their footsteps.

Alhassan later acknowledged the founding members of Ahmadiyya that started the Qur’an School.

While addressing the graduating students, he said, “As from today, you are starting another phase in life. Therefore, if you are guided and guarded well, there is nothing you cannot achieve.”

In his own address, the Deputy Amir, South-West, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Alatoye urged the graduating students especially the girls to transfer their knowledge of the Qur’an to their children when they start procreating. He also pointed that they should be obedient, respectful and dutiful to Allah.

Coordinator of Madrasatul Tahfidhil Qur’an, Ustaz Hafiz Opayemi in his welcome address said, “Qur’an stands out as the only religious book that has continuously enjoy the honour of being memorized through ages since its revelation. The promise of its protection, preservation and memorization is in the Holy Qur’an itself. ‘Surely, we are the one that revealed the exhortation and it is our prerogative to protect it.’ So we have come to honour and celebrate those who share in the blessings and honour of the Holy Qur’an by memorizing and becoming the walking Qur’an. Some say Ahmadiyya do not believe in Qur’an. Today’s programme is a message to such people that not only do we believe in Qur’an, but we also believe in its preservation.”

Opayemi also used the opportunity to appreciate those who contributed immensely to the success of the graduation ceremony.

Habeebullah Adeyemi, the overall best graduating student said, “It is only Allah that made it possible for me to finish the Qur’an within that stipulated duration. When I first got admission into the madrasat, I was scared and I asked myself if I would be able to finish reciting the Qur’an. Today, I give thanks to the Almighty Allah for giving me the wisdom and understanding to finish the Qur’an recitation quickly. It was very hard at the beginning but very easy at the end. One of the things that made me finish in time was that I was focused and I believed Allah has destined it that way.”

This year’s graduation ceremony marks the sixth graduation ceremony (male category) and the second graduation ceremony (female category) of Madrasatul Tahfidhil Qur’an. In all, Ahmadiyya has trained over 300 Hufaadz
