COBOURG -- Recent terrorist attacks in Jakarta, Istanbul, San Bernardino and Paris have prompted a Muslim group to hold a series of open houses.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association will hold a session at the Cobourg Public Library on Jan. 30.

The association condemns the attacks as well as all forms of terrorism, according to a press release from AMYA. Terrorism has never been and will never be the teachings of Islam, AMYA said. Such extreme ideologies of terrorist groups, like ISIS, are a danger to all of humanity, said AMYA.

The group said these dangerous ideologies must be eliminated through proper education, adding the actions of ISIS and other terrorist groups have created myths surrounding Islam which in turn have given rise to hate crimes against Muslims all over the world.

This is due to the lack of understanding of the true and peaceful teachings of Islam, said AMYA.

In response to these attacks and to counter the myths, the association started a nation-wide campaign called Demystify Islam (#DemystifyIslam) in December 2015. During this campaign, the youth of Ahmadiyyat have held 135 open houses and made more than 270 visits to more than 35 towns across Canada, in an attempt to demystify Islam, promote peace and create religious harmony in the country.

The Holy Quran Open House to Demystify Islam will be on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cobourg Public Library, 200 Ontario St.
