The Ahmadiyya Youth Wing recently held its 32nd Annual National Ijtema (convention) at a ceremony held at Nusrat Senior Secondary School in Bundung. The three-day forum attracted youth delegates from The Gambia and beyond.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal of Nusrat Senior Secondary School, Karamo K.S. Bojang, called on the youth to be steadfast in whatever they do in life.

He took the opportunity to inform the gathering about how challenging it was for him and others who worked hard to make sure that Nusrat Senior Secondary School stands firm. "Before people did not regard this institution as such; they referred to it as a 'bush school' because of its location in those days. But as time went on the school started producing best results in the country," Bojang informed youth.

Bojang said that youths should be proud of the school owing to its academic performances in all the subjects, stating that many Gambians and non-Gambians alike went through the school.

He said that the school would continue to deliver its best to Gambians and non-Gambians alike. "My institution is growing from strength to strength since its inception in 1970," he added.

Welcoming the youth delegates, the Regional Youth leader for the Greater Banjul Area (GBA), Ibrahim Colley, said it was a blessing and pleasure for GBA region to host this year's 32nd National Ijtema of the Majlis Khuddam-Ul-Ahmadiyya (MKA) The Gambia.

"Our today's gathering here is all about knowledge seeking and training for our members as our Jama'at put more emphasis on the Talim and Tarbiyyat," Colley said.

As Ahmadis, he went on, the ultimate aim of Talim and Tarbiyyat is to create a community of highly informed, educated and skilled people of exemplary conduct.

According to him, their goal is to maintain a generation of disciplined and literate children and youth, as models worth emulating.

He posited that education and religious training of youths of any nation is extremely important, opining that it can reap immeasurable benefits even though the task is a demanding one. "It definitely requires hard work, perseverance, endurance and sacrifice by all but through our prayers and efforts we can do it Insha Allah," he added.

Colley stated that a nation cannot be reformed without the reformation of her youth as the cream and hope of any society is her youths.

Reforming the country's youth, he observed, entails preventing them from being involved in any wasteful, barbaric, deceitful lifestyle; youths are the ones who are the most productive and become assets to their respective families, community and the nation at large.

"The ultimate benefit thus leads to peace, prosperity and stability of a nation. I urge all delegates to commit their time during the three days and fully participate in all the programmes of the Ijtema from lectures to academic and sport competition," he stated.

Other speakers at the opening ceremony were: Sadir Sahid, Majlis Khuddamul, Tahir Ahmad Touray, Ustass Abdullah Dibba and Ousman Mbowe.
