More than 40,000 Ahmadi Muslims throughout the country will converge on Pomadze, near Winneba Junction in the Central Region on Thursday, January 7, 2016 to begin a three-day annual convention.
The 84th annual national convention, on the theme, “Tolerance Peaceful Co-existence; A prerequisite for progressive nation building,” will be officially opened by Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, Ameer (Head) and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana.
According to a release issued by the National Jalsa Salana Committee of the Mission, Ahmadi Muslim scholars and professionals, including medical practitioners, lawyers, agriculture experts, as well as theologians, will address the convention.
Also invited to address the three-day convention are government officials.
The Jalsa Salana Convention, held annually by Ahmadi Muslim communities in more than 200 countries, including Ghana, was instituted by the Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian in India.
Purpose of Jalsa Salana
The purpose of Jalsa Salana is to enable every sincere Ahmadi Muslim to personally experience true religious benefits and the existence of Allah, the All-Living.
The Holy Founder, Hadhrat Ahmad urged Ahmadi Muslims to participate in the Jalsa with zeal and vigour and also listen to the proceedings in silence and with full attention so that they would win Allah’s bountiful blessings.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was brought to Ghana in 1921 by a devout Indian Ahmadi Muslim Missionary, Ameer Alhaj Maulana Abdur Raheem Nayyar.
Maulana Nayyar was succeeded by a number of foreign Ameers and Missionaries until 1975 when the first Ghanaian Maulvi, Dr Abdul Wahab Bin Adam, was appointed by the then Supreme Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih III as Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana.
The Ameer, Dr Wahab Adam, who passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Sunday, June 22, 2014 served the Mission for 39 years.
He was succeeded by Alhaj Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, who is also a Ghanaian.
