Fiona Ahmed, president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Sharon, who hosted the event, was most hopeful to weed out the misinformation that can be presented about the Abrahamic religion, along with Judiasm and Christianity.
"We're just hoping to present the true message of Islam and also to denounce extremism that has no place in Islam," Ahmed said. "We just want the people to know that (the extremists) don't represent Islam ... we come in peace to present the peaceful message of Islam. What (the extremists) are doing is hijacking the faith of Islam and making it hard for the peace-loving people of Islam."

Rashid said his part of the presentation was the explanation of the "common sense stuff" and to clarify "the stuff that may already be in your mind."
As a "for instance," Rashid pointed out a verse from the Bible in Deuteronomy that seemed to encourage the Israelites to fight and make war with neighboring communities, and how this could be misinterpreted for not just the Christian religion, but for Islam as well.
"For every scripture that you read, you should read them all before you criticize them," Rashid said.
This part of the presentation then came to the term jihad, which, as Rashid pointed out, meant "struggle," not to kill.
As Rashid explained, there were two parts of jihad: jihad akbar, which is against oneself, and jihad asghar, which was physical violence.
Jihad akbar, the "greater" of these two, fought inwardly against such emotions as anger and lusts, but, Rashid was quick to explain, help was not far in defeating these emotions.
"You have to have the power of faith, and Allah will help you - that's the message of the Quran," Rashid said.
