OWEN SOUND - Members of a moderate Muslim youth association will be at Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library Saturday to help debunk the view held by some that Islam is an extremist ideology.
The event is part of a national campaign called Demystify Islam, organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association. The campaign began in December in response to the Paris terror attacks, information from the group says.
They're holding more than 135 open houses and making more than 270 visits to more than 35 towns across Canada “in an attempt to spread peace, demystify Islam and create religious harmony.” The same Ahmadiyya group visited the city last February.
A news release announcing the visit says “We are Muslims who believe in the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, whose purpose was to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace.”
They'll be in the public library from noon to 4 p.m., at 824 1st Ave. W.
