All hands on deck for clean-up day

DANDENONG Police Paddocks Reserve has received a spruce-up from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

More than 200 volunteers took part in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 6 March at the paddocks and in Langwarrin and Rockbank.

They collected close to a tonne of rubbish from the three sites.

“It was really good to see all the youngsters, especially the teenagers and children, participating in this event,” regional youth leader Muhammed Kaleemullah said.

“It is all about educating on the importance of Clean Up Australia Day.”

Youth leader and site supervisor Kashan Ahmad said: “We cleaned up lots of areas around the Police Paddocks. It was a really good job.”

“This event is building awareness in the youth on how they can participate in the community and how to clean the environment.”

Ahmadiyya Muslim Victoria and Tasmania Imam Syed Wadood Janud said Clean Up Australia Day also held religious significance.

“Prophet Muhammad told his followers that cleanliness is at least half of your faith,” he said.
“Furthermore, he said loving and serving your country is a part of your faith.

“By participating in Clean Up Australia Day we are in fact fulfilling and discharging our duties as Muslims.

“And in doing so we are helping the environment to ensure the preservation of this beautiful land.”
