SOUTHEAST Melbourne Muslims have condemned the March 22 terror attacks in Belgium, saying “under no circumstances does Islam permit terrorism”.
National President of the Australian Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Imam Inam-ul-Haq Kauser described the attacks as “horrific” and said the community extended its sympathies to the Belgian people.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the innocent victims,” he said.
“Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Australia categorically rejects extremism and terrorism in any form and anywhere in the world.
“Islam teaches us the sacredness and dignity of human life.
“Islam requires us being loyal and law abiding citizen of the country of residence.”
The group similarly condemned the November 13, 2015 Paris terror attacks.
Imam ul Haq Kauser, head of the Australian Ahmadiyyah community, said Muslims should condemn terror attacks in Belgium.
Terrorists affiliated with Islamic State set off bombs at the Brussels international airport and subway system, killing 34 and injuring at least 240.
The Australian government has urged travellers to avoid all travel to Belgium.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Kim Beazley has called for the public to assist moderates in the Islamic community, who are arguing for coexistence, co-operation and modernism.
