Update: POLICE have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the death of Glasgow shopkeeper Asad Shah. Police say both the victim and the accused are Muslim, and that the attack on Asad Shah, who was brutally murdered at his shop in Shawlands last night, was 'religiously prejudiced'.
Asad Shah had head stamped on and was left in pool of blood in brutal attack
A shopkeeper was stabbed to death in a savage street attack in Glasgow last night.
Forty-year-old Asad Shah, owner of Shah's Newsagents, was subjected to a brutal assault and had his head stamped on.
The alarm was raised at 9.10pm in Minard Road in the Shawlands area of the city. The victim was found seriously injured and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he later died.
An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: “As I drove past I saw two men standing over the victim.
“One was stamping on his head. There was a pool of blood on the ground. It was horrific.
“The police arrived in minutes and the poor guy was getting CPR at the scene. I really hope he pulls through.”
The attack happened at the junction with Waverley Gardens. Police confirmed this morning that Mr Shah had died after the attack and that a second man was injured.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: ""Officers are currently pursuing a positive line of inquiry in connection with the death.
"Closures are in place at Pollokshaws Road and Titwood Road while inquiries are conducted at the scene."
It has emerged Mr Shah posted a heartfelt Easter message on Facebook just hours before he brutally stabbed to death last night.
This morning, a neighbour of his store was shocked at his killing. The man - who asked not to be named - said: "I can't believe this. At first I thought there had been a car accident further along the road.
"Mr Shah is a decent man. He is very quiet but friendly. This is terrible."
Minard Road was still cordoned off and guarded by officers around the store this morning, close to Crossmyloof station.
A police incident unit is stationed near the murder scene, while a body tent is visible.
No further detail has been given of the second victim of the attack.
