KEIGHLEY people have participated in a major London event to promote international justice and peace.

Members of the Keighley branch of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, along with several guests, attended the association's Annual Peace Symposium in Morden.

They were among a large gathering, which also included ministers, MPs, diplomats, mayors and other civic and religious leaders.

The symposium was addressed by Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed, leader of the world Ahmadiyya Muslim community, who warned that local and regional conflicts had the potential to engulf the entire world.

He said: “The world stands in desperate need of peace and security.

"This is the urgent issue of our time. All nations and all peoples must come together for the greater good and unite in their efforts to stop all forms of cruelty, persecution and injustice perpetrated in the name of religion or in any other way.”

Dr Aziz Ahmad Hafiz, president of Keighley's Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, said: "At a time of global uncertainty, it is all the more important for people of all walks of life to come together to promote peaceful coexistence at the local, national and international level."

He and his association colleagues were accompanied to London by Paul Skinner, of Keighley Community through Unity group, and fellow Keighley resident Kash Singh, of One Britain One Nation.
