Thousands of dollars are set to be raised for the Blind Foundation this weekend as the Ahmadiyya Muslim community hits the pavement in its annual Walk for Humanity walkathon on 12 March 2016.
Now in its eighth year, participants will be walking up to 10 kilometres to raise money for the training of guide dogs and Humanity First. The walk forms part of number of initiatives that the community undertakes throughout the year to support those most in need.
“The world today sees Muslims and Islam being portrayed in the news for all the wrong reasons. In reality Islam teaches us that serving others is a means to get closer to God and His love and this motivation underpins all the charity work we engage in both in New Zealand and internationally,” says Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spokesperson Mr Sabhan Shah.
“Throughout the year we will be undertaking several activities to help our communities including feeding the needy and hosting refugees,” he says.
This year’s walkathon will be held at the Barry Curtis Park in Flat Bush Auckland, and will commence at 10 am. The event is open to the public and will feature a sausage sizzle at the end for the participants and fundraisers.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a worldwide reformist movement in Islam, with millions of followers in over 200 countries. It is acknowledged worldwide for its sincere efforts to establish global peace, and for its work towards charitable causes.
