Perspective: 'True Islam prays for him' | Sohail Husain

Trump should know that my Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes in all of the tenets of Islam. Based on its teachings, our decades-old motto is, "Love for all, hatred for none."

"Islam hates us," Republican front-runner Donald Trump said last week. I agree that there is a lot of hatred in the world. And sadly, violent extremists in the guise of religion bear a large part of the blame. But by making broad allegations against an entire faith of 1.6 billion people, Trump joins the ranks of the top hate-mongers.

Trump should know that my Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes in all of the tenets of Islam. Based on its teachings, our decades-old motto is, "Love for all, hatred for none." Our spiritual leader, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, has asked us to do what the prophet Muhammad did when he was faced with bitter animosity: Pray that your enemies' hearts are softened by love and the pursuit of truth.

    This is true Islam. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) prayed for his bitterest enemies and we Muslims follow his teachings. Muslims cannot hate their country and their fellow citizens because love for their country is part of their faith.

    If you look at the history. In the early days of Islam, when Muslims were tortured by the Meccans because of their faith ,the Holy Prophet Mohammad (sa) asked some of the men and women to migrate to Abyssinia to seek refuge.
    At that time the ruler of Abyssinia was a Christian and he was a very kind hearted ruler.
    The Holy prophet (sa)had praised the Christian ruler for his justice and kindness. Then how can we, as true followers of him, hate other Christians?
