MUSLIM volunteers who helped out in flood-stricken Tadcaster have been welcomed to Parliament and thanked by the town's MP.

Selby and Ainsty MP Nigel Adams said a dozen or so volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) came to the aid of Tadcaster flood victims between Christmas and New Year, after the River Wharfe burst its banks, working tirelessly alongside hundreds of other volunteers.

He said AMYA, whose motto was ‘Love for all, Hatred for none,’ worked across the country assisting those in need, and the reception evening in Parliament was a chance to highlight its great humanitarian and charity work.

"AMYA have shown that these young Muslims are proud of Britain, they went out of their way to make sure they do their bit to contribute and I know the people of Tadcaster are extremely grateful to them for their efforts in helping get the town back on it’s feet," he said.

National AMYA President, Mirza Waqas Ahmad, said: “Islam teaches us that we should be loyal to the country we reside in. It is only through integrating the youth into their local communities and encouraging them to do good works that radicalisation can be eliminated."
