HARTFORD--This Thursday, an event is being held at the state Capitol to teach the true meaning of Islam.
"A Day of True Islam and the Extremists" will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is intended to introduce others about the core values taught in the Quran.
The even comes on the heels of a speech President Obama gave in December -- days after the San Bernardino shooting -- encouraging Muslim leadership to speak out against extremism.
Zahir Mannan, of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said, "This is in response to President Obama's address, but also our kalif of Islam, our international leader, who is also a khalifa, he called on us to increase our activities to counter extremism."
Mannan said that his community is working together with other Muslims and non-Muslims to fight extremism.
"As Muslims that believe the Messiah, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, we have been trying our best to work together with other Muslims in unity and unison to put away our differences and come together in solidarity to counter that extremism."
There are 70 chapters across the country of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
"This campaign is against extremism and radicalization...and really it's strengthening the national security against extremism," Mannan added.
