The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at is marking 50 years in Canada with a celebration in Civic Square tonight (wed).
City Council has declared today Ahmadiyya Muslim Day. National President Lal Khan Malik will be there tonight along with the mayor and other dignitaries. The celebration begins tonight at 6:30.
The future of Ahmadiyya
The group is building a new mosque near the intersection of Boychuk Drive and Highway 16. It will be the city’s first purpose-built mosque.
Funding for the building has not been raised through conventional activities such as barbecues and bake sales. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at community from across Canada have contributed funds, and they’ve been very generous — including some who have donated money they’d been saving for a down payment on a house.
