Tomorrow people across the nation will be celebrating Thanksgiving, a holiday first celebrated in this nation by the pilgrims and natives, dedicated to giving thanks for the blessings that have been bestowed upon us.
In Islam, there is not a special day reserved for thanking God; in fact, every day is thanksgiving for us Muslims. The Quran says, “And if you count the favors of God, you will not be able to number them” (16:19). Our holy book guides us to thank our Creator several times a day in our five daily prayers. As citizens, we should be especially thankful for our nation and the basic liberties that it provides us including the freedom to practice our beliefs without fear. In the Quran it is also stated, “If you are grateful, I will surely bestow more favors on you” (14:8). This excerpt should influence us to say thanks for the uncountable amount of blessings we receive on a daily basis.
As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe thanksgiving. This should be a time in which we should reflect on the past year and thank our creator for the blessings that have been granted to us.
