Dear Editor,
November 8, 2016 is surely a day that will be remembered by Americans and all people alike. In an upset victory, Donald Trump won the election for the highest office of the land and was named President-elect. Following the results there have been reports of a rise of harassment and hate crimes against Muslims and other minority groups.
I condemn any and all acts of harassment and encourage everyone to unite in working towards making our country safe for all. Despite all these heinous acts such as a Muslim student from the University of Michigan being threatened to take her hijab off or she would be set on fire; many groups have shown a desire and willingness to stand with communities who are being affected. As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, I believe that the best cure for this religious intolerance and bigotry is education and understanding.
To educate everyone on the true teachings of Islam we urge all to learn about Islam’s stance on refuting common allegations against the religion to be better empowered to fight hatred.
