[M]many shared optimism about what a Trump presidential term could bring.

Saima Sheikh is a Dallas-based spokeswoman for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, an international Islamic movement.

She told A-J Media her organization congratulates the newly elected president and wishes him a successful term.

“We respect and cherish the peaceful transition of power in our democracy. As a purely spiritual community, we hope and pray that President-elect Trump leads our country on a path to peace, progress, security and prosperity. We look forward to working closely with his administration on common concerns, including the establishment and maintenance of just relations between nations, universal human rights and respect and dignity for all Americans.”

Islam stresses loyalty to one’s nation and obedience to its leaders, Sheikh said. While in disagreement with some of Trump’s rhetoric, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community still respects his position of authority.

“We hope and pray that he corrects his misstatements as president, works closely with American Muslim leaders and builds bridges between his administration and the American Muslim community, because we are a vital and indispensable part of this democracy,” she said. “... We pray that since Trump is the president-elect, he will unite the country and lead us to the right path.”
