Hurricanes Harvey and Irma caused massive flooding and left thousands of people displaced from their homes. But as devastating as these hurricanes were, the resilience of Americans is inspiring, as they have rallied to help their fellow citizens.
Among these Americans are youth members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who, working with the nonprofit organization Humanity First, volunteered to clean 64 homes, perform 30 boat rescues, provide 600 hot meals, and raise $10,000 for those affected in areas near Houston in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
As Florida recovers from Hurricane Irma, Ahmadi Muslim youth drove from Wisconsin and Virginia with several gallons of gasoline to distribute and cleaned streets in Miami, Naples, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville.
In Malik Al-Muwatta (Volume 49, number 22) it is noted that Prophet Muhammad said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should be generous to his neighbor." And so, American Ahmadi Muslims have been assisting their neighbors in need all over the country and will continue to do so.
