More than twenty years ago, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (the oldest Muslim community in the Netherlands) took the initiative to take to the streets during the New Year's Day to clean up fireworks. In order to continue this annual tradition, the members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community will once again take to the streets in the early hours to clean up remnants of the fireworks.
The teachings of Islam teach Muslims to be of service in society. The cleaning action is one of the many actions the community holds throughout the year as a gesture of closeness and service.
The members gather at the faith center at 7:30 am and after completing the first prayer of the year, about twenty members take to the streets to clean up fireworks in and around the shopping center of Nunspeet. Last year over two hundred members took part in this initiative nationwide. In this way, the community also keeps cleaning actions in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Nunspeet, Arnhem, Schiedam, Almere and Drunen.
