Young Muslims from Putney, Raynes Park and Wimbledon joined members of the local community to help tidy up the streets after the New Year festivities.
Youths from Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) South West London branch, took to the streets with brooms and bin bags in hand as part of the ‘Big Street Clean’.
The campaign is one of many charitable and community initiatives carried out by the AMYA across the winter break.
Aamer Hafeez, youth leader for South West London region said: “Our members have enjoyed living in Merton, Putney and Wimbledon for decades and so any opportunity to help our local Community is much welcome.
“Cleaning the streets of Wimbledon Broadway also presents us with an opportunity to become better Muslims as cleanliness is an integral part of our faith.
“We are peace loving British Muslims and will continue to do all we can to serve our local community as best we can and wherever there is a need.”
Michael Bull, councillor of the Dundonald Ward took part in Wimbledon Town Centre with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association for their community clean up event, said: “It was great to get along. Well done for making Wimbledon Town centre a lot more pleasant for the New Year.”
