Young members of Waltham Forest Ahmadiyya Muslim Association got up at the crack of dawn and took to the streets to hand out hot food and drinks to homeless men and women.
Seven youngsters from the youth group at Bait ul Ahad Mosque in Erskine Road in Walthamstow chatted with rough sleepers at the event on Sunday.
Ahmed Mansoor, assistant to the president of the mosque’s youth group, said: “The food was provided by Humanity First which we are a member of and we cooked it here on Saturday night.
“It was at 6am on Sunday when everyone was sleeping and we went out looking for the homeless.
“We distributed over 100 lunch boxes with rice and lentils and cups of tea to homeless people in Charing Cross.
“We met guys who told us their personal stories about how they ended up on the streets.
East London and West Essex Guardian Series:
“We want to encourage the youths to get involved in their community and to be aware of all the homeless people out there.”
The young men were joined by fellow worshippers from Chingford, Waltham Abbey and Stratford.
