Fiji: 72 Ahmadiyya school students inducted as prefects, pledge to support teachers

Seventy-two students from Ahmadiyya Muslim Pri­mary School were inducted as prefects in Narere, Makoi, yesterday.

This year the headboy, Tushaal Prasad, 14, and headgirl Akesa Domowai, 14, aim to improve the academic results of the school by supporting the teachers and stu­dents in any way they can.

Tushaal, a Year Eight student, said as headboy, he also hopes to achieve a better pass rate for the school in the Fiji Year Eight Examination compared to last year’s 80 per cent pass rate.

“I was very excited when told I was going to be badged as the headboy. I was a prefect last year and this is my chance to give back to the school,” he said.

Like any head of the student council, Tushaal said would en­sure that student prefects including those on road patrol adhere to their oath and ensure that students behave in their classrooms and in school.

Headgirl Akesa acknowledged her teachers for having faith in her and choosing her as the headgirl which she understands require a lot of dedication and commitment.

Meanwhile, chief guest sen­ior education officer Eastern Joshua Sevutia said the school was once an under-performing school.

“However, I am happy to hear that Ahmadiyya has improved by having an 80 per cent pass rate with the year eight exami­nations for 2017,” Mr Savutia said.

He challenged the school to at­tain a better pass rate this year.
