Newly inducted headgirl of Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School, Teresia Nei, is proud to follow her brother’s footsteps.

The 18-year-old of Naua Settlement in Dreketi, Macuata Province, said her brother; Sunia Wasei was the headboy of this school last year.

“I am the second youngest of seven siblings and we all depend on our mother’s social welfare allowance,” Teresia said.

“This is after my father died from heart attack when I was in Year 11.

“Life has been very difficult for us, but my mother has always encouraged us to focus on our studies so that we can finish well and get scholarships to pursue further studies.”

“I want to become a history and geography teacher because I want to study about what our ancestors have done in the past,” she said.

“Also I have plans after graduation to support my mother financially in a way to thank her for standing strong for us.”

Meanwhile, the newly-inducted headboy Kristian Deo of Batiri in Vanua Levu said he knew he would be given this position.

“I would like to thank the principal of the school Mashud Ali for giving opportunities to rural students to take up leadership roles,” the 18-year-old who is aspiring to be an agriculture teacher said.

“I vow to perform my role as expected and work together in peace and harmony with the 11 prefects, 18 teachers and 140 students from Year Nine to 13.”

The school is located outside Labasa Town.
