Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemeni Shiite Houthi rebels mistakenly killed six civilians, including women and children, in airstrikes on Yemen on Wednesday, local security officials and medics said.

In the central province of Marib, the officials said the coalition airstrikes hit a home at noon in Hajlan area, killing two women and two children.

In the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, the air strikes targeted a gas station in the populated district of Jarrahi, killing at least two women and injuring dozens of residents.

The attack was the latest in a series of airstrikes conducted by the U.S.-backed Saudi-led coalition air force since the start of the war in Yemen three years ago.

On Jan. 22, a Saudi-led airstrike killed a family of seven members in the Yemeni northern province of Saada, according to provincial security officials.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in March 2015 to roll back the Iranian-allied Houthi rebels and to support the internationally-recognized President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who was forced into exile by the Houthis.

The war has killed over 10,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians, displaced 3 million others and triggered the worst humanitarian crises.
