The Ahmadiyya Muslim community of New Zealand is holding its 10th annual charity walkathon on the 17th March 2018. A regular event in the community’s annual calendar, the walk traditionally has helped raise thousands of dollars to support the Blind Foundation (and the Guide dogs for Blind), and the Humanity First charities.
“Charity and looking after the needy forms an important corner stone of the Muslim faith. By holding events such as the ‘Walk for Humanity’, we want to play our role in reaching out to those who may be in need of any special assistance”, says the community’s spokesman Dr Nadeem Ahmad. “The Blind foundation and Humanity First charities have both been worthy recipients of our support in the past years, and through their work are making the lives of countless people better, both in New Zealand and beyond. It is both our duty as Muslims, and a privilege to be part of this process.”
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is well known to support charities throughout the world and has raised several million dollars internationally through events such as the walkathon. The New Zealand chapter of the Ahmadiyya community continues to be at the forefront of supporting humanitarian causes and disaster relief, may it be by raising money, or by physically reaching out through activities such as new year’s day clean up, earthquake relief, or supporting local centres like the Auckland City Mission.
This year’s walkathon will be held in the Barry Curtis park in Flat Bush on the 17th March starting at 10 am. Representatives from various organisations including the Blind foundation and the AA are expected to join dozens of members of the Ahmadiyya Community. The event is organised and managed by a team of volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. The participants will be treated to a barbeque and sausage sizzle at the end which this year will be sponsored by Mike Pero NZ.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a worldwide reformist movement in Islam, with millions of followers in 210 countries. It is acknowledged worldwide for its sincere efforts to establish global peace, and for its work towards charitable causes.
