USA: Theosophical Society of Detroit welcomes Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to present Islamic teaching on peace

"Islam presents and urges to establish peace for each and every one at all cost" said Imam Shamshad of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Detriot.

The Theosophical Society of Detroit invited Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to present on Islam titled “Muslims who believe in the Messiah”. Imam Shamshad Nasir, regional Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spoke at length about the fundamental beliefs of the Islamic faith and how Ahmadiyya Muslim Community brought the true teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) back.

The Theosophical Society of Detroit encourages open-minded inquiry into world religions, philosophy, science, and the arts in order to understand the wisdom of the ages, respect the unity of all life, and help people explore spiritual self-transformation.

"One of the early members of the Theosophical Society became the first prominent white American Muslim convert, a man named Alexander Russell Webb, initially began taking a serious interest in Islam after starting a correspondence with Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (a.s) in late 1886. In this correspondence, which lasted several months, Webb showed enthusiasm for spreading Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s (a.s) ideas and was invited to Qadian to study under the teacher. Later he was able to visit India and between 1893 and 1897, Webb led the first major Islamic movement in America." Said Mary- Jo, director of the Theosophical society' in her welcome address.

Mary-Jo, Director of the Detroit Chapter of the Theosophical Society welcomed Imam Shamshad Nasir and members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Detroit Michigan. She then invited Imam Shamshad Nasir to give his presentation.

While providing an overview of the five pillars of Islamic teachings, Imam Shamshad Nasir said: “To become Muslim, you simply have to believe in the unity of God and that Muhammad(PBUH) is his messenger, it’s that simple”.

Islam is a religion of peace at its core. All of its teachings revolve around creating peace in personal life as well as in community, nation and across the entire humanity. Its teachings are universal that are deeply rooted and based on nature. Islam stresses so much on the peace that its greetings mean ‘peace on you’ and the word ‘Islam’ itself mean peace, and urges to establish peace at all cost.

Imam Shamshad then elaborated the five pillars of Islam. The Muslims believe in all prophets of God including Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (PBUH).



The attendees listened, presentation on Islam and Ahmadiyyat with keen interest. At the end many of them asked questions in regards to the how one does become a Muslim, what does Muslims think of other religions, separation of genders etc.

In the end, Imam thanked the theosophical society and Director Mar Jo for inviting Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to their center and presented to the Director of the society Two books “Philosophy of the teachings of Islam” and “Life of Muhammad” as gift to the Theosophical Society’s library for which Mary Jo thanked Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Imam Shamshad Nasir invited members of the Theosophical Society to visit Masjid Mahmood of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community for further dialogue.
