PAKISTAN’S ANTI-BLASPHEMY LAWS - TESTIMONY OF AMJAD MAHMOOD KHAN, ESQ.

BEFORE THE TOM LANTOS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF THE COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

"U.S. lawmakers want Pakistan to do more to fight religious intolerance, saying the issue should play a bigger role in U.S. assistance to and engagement with Pakistan in coming years. Witnesses at a congressional hearing testified that Pakistan's blasphemy laws encourage extremism."



Amjad Mahmod Khan appeared at Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom and lectured on Pakistan's Anti-Blasphemy Laws: The Case of the Ahmadiyya Community on October 7th, 2009. On October 8th, he testified before a Congressional Panel supporting a non-binding resolution introduced in the House of Representatives to restore religious freedom in Pakistan.

Thank you for inviting me to testify today on the legal and constitutional issues surrounding Pakistan’s anti-blasphemy laws. I am honored to provide testimony before this body. The fact that you have commissioned a special hearing on this issue demonstrates your deep commitment to international human rights and religious freedom, and for that you are to be commended."
