As our nation mourns this tragedy, let us remember that we will only become stronger as a nation by avoiding stereotypes and prejudice. Nadal Hasan represents a disturbed class of individuals that cross racial, religious, and gender lines. I've mentioned before that as Timothy McVeigh does not speak for Christianity, so too does Nadal Hasan not speak for Islam.
A few weeks back I published an article about Muslims in the military. It can be found here: "The powerful Muslim military Americans don't know about".
Everything from that article still holds true today. Islam requires a Muslim to obey those in authority over him and categorically forbids creating disorder for any reason. That one person chose a different path should not reflect on the thousands of Muslims in the military valiantly defending our country. Rather, the thousands valiantly defending our country show prove that those few acting contrary in no way represent them, or Islam.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those heroes who fell on November 5th. May God have mercy on them and encompass them with His Grace, Amen.
