Northampton, England, UK (Northampton Chronicle) - The Northampton branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association held the conference at the Caroline Chisholm School, in Wootton Fields, and it was attended by members of the public including invited police officers and Sally Keeble, the Labour MP for NoRthampton North.

Dr Naveed Zafar, president of the Northampton branch, said: "We wanted to promote peace and understanding within the wider community and to show by example that true Muslims do not condone any form of terrorism or aggravated behaviour towards other humans.

"The motto 'Love for all, Hatred for none' is one that is very much practised in the Ahmadiyya community and that was one of the themes of the day."

The conference was introduced by Dr Syed Farooque, president for the Midlands area, and other speakers were Dr Zafar, Mrs Keeble and the main speaker, Imam Ataul Mujeeb Rashad, a respected scholar in Islam and comparative religions.

Dr Zafar spoke briefly, giving an overview of the Ahmadiyya community, its values and ethics.

Mrs Keeble spoke on the importance of peace in the society, and thanked the Ahmadiyya community for addressing the issue.

The main lecture, given by Imam Ataul Mujeeb Rashad, discussed the way to promote peace in society.

He stressed that there should be no compulsion in religion and that any good teaching should be adopted for the benefit of mankind.

Afterwards there was an open question and answer session in which the audience, including councillors and members of other religious organisations, asked about terrorism, women's rights, and politics.

Dr Zafar said: "Feedback after the event was immensely positive.

"Many of the guests said that they had been cynical about whether or not to attend the event and had considered not coming but were incredibly glad that they did, as many of their misapprehensions, and fears in regard to Islam, had been reverted."
