SHARIA SYSTEM CAN'T WORK IN NIGERIA, SAYS AHMADIYYA MUSLIM MISSIONER, DR. MOSHOOD FASHOLA

...[i]t would be unfair for a leader who stole billions of dollars, to cut the hand of a petty thief or ordered a prostitute to be stoned when they call these girls to the Government House.

The Chief Missioner of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Dr. Moshood Fashola, has said that the Islamic legal system, Sharia cannot be used to administer any part of the country because the political leaders had not met the needs of the people.

Fashola stated this in Akure on Saturday at a news conference on the ninth National Atfal Ijtima, a three – day national children convention of the organization, which ended at the state capital on Sunday.

The Islamic cleric noted that the Muslim leaders of the latter days did not have a good understanding of Islam, hence their introduction of the Sharia system to administer the people could be easily faulted.

He explained that a former governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Sani Yerima, introduced Sharia to address the problem of immorality.

He said the man only succeeded by resettling some prostitutes and empowered them to set up business on their own.

He however said, “The four basic fundamental rules of Sharia that; No citizen must go hungry, that every body must have access to safe water, have shelter, and must wear good cloths as contained in Quoran 20: 119-121, were not followed before he introduced sharia”

He added, “If you have enough resources to meet these needs and every citizen has access to good food and nutrition, decent accommodation, however simple, clothing and access to safe water, anybody caught stealing could then be arrested and his hands cut.

“But if you have not provided these basic laws of existence, anybody without a hope of survival, has the right to go to where he could find food and eat and if any leader cut the hand of that person, that is hypocrisy,” he stated.

He noted with concern that it would be unfair for a leader who stole billions of dollars to cut the hand of a petty thief or ordered a prostitute to be stoned when they call these girls to the Government House.

He said, “That is hypocrisy. Nigeria leaders who were involved in immorality were still there as free men and you want to stone a prostitute. What of leaders who hire call girls at will and sleep with them even in government house. That is sheer hypocrisy.

“When people have jobs their livelihood and humanity will develop. But when we have dehumanized them, it will be unfair to punish them.” He added.

Fashola said the Ahmadiyya society did not take over the schools it established when government wanted to return them because the group has no money to run them.
