The Ahmadiyya Muslim Students' Association at George Mason University (GMU), are sponsoring an interfaith conference today,  April 7, 2010.

The conference will explore the question: “If God exists, then why is there suffering?”

The three hours event will start at 4:00 PM in Enterprise Hall Room 80 at the Fairfax Campus.

The participants of the event will discuss the question of suffering and its compatibility with the concept of a ‘Just and Merciful God.’

Many leaders from various schools of thought, including from Atheism, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Islam have been invited to present their points of view.

Dr. Al Fuertes of GMU will introduce the event, followed by the speakers.

According to the program, Ted Penton will speak for Atheism, Rev. Kaz Nakata from Ekoji Buddhist Temple will represent Buddhist points of view; Rabbi Bruce Aft of Hillel will represent Judaism; Rev. Denise Giacomozzi May of United College Ministries will be speaking for Christianity and Islam will be represented by Imam Naseem Mahdi from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

“With all the suffering in the world, many question whether it's even possible to believe in God,” explains Saud Iqbal, the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Student Association at GMU.

“The great calamities have reignited the question in the minds of many about the existence of God."

The event organizers expect a rich discussion where the speakers will have the opportunity to present their individual perspective and from their own understanding of their faiths.

The presentations will be followed by a Q/A session.
