This year’s annual 11th national congress of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Students Association of Ghana (AMSAG) has been held on the theme, ‘The role of a student in nation building’.
In his welcome address, the national president of the association, Mr. Jamil Rahman Nyame, called for full co-operation from the members for the speedy progress of the association.
He appealed to the Ministry of Education to come out with a clear-cut policy that would enable Muslim students in both the government and private educational institutions to be exempted from attending compulsory Christian churches on Sundays but rather allow them to attend the Friday Muslim prayers.
He said in all Ahmadiyya Muslim schools, there was freedom of worship which allowed Christian students to go and worship on Sundays.
An executive member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association of Ghana, Madam Sakeena Bonsu, advised the students, especially the females, to always dress decently “because any dress put on by a woman communicates to the society, the sort of woman she is”.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of Education, Mr Alex Tettey Enyo, said the government had put in place necessary interventions to ensure quality education delivery at all levels to enhance student performance.
The national secretary of the association, Miss Salma Adjoa Keelson, in her report, appealed to Ahmadi parents to encourage their wards to participate actively in the association’s activities.
The acting Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission of Ghana, Alhaji Maulvi M. Yusuf Yawson, reminded the students that their prime obligation was to pursue their education for better understanding of the world around them and to improve upon their lives and that of others.
