May 19: NBC12 Richmond interviewed Qasim Rashid, a Muslim law student from the University of Richmond. Qasim explained the efforts his community made for past 120 years to establish peace. The Times Square attempted bombing hijacked my religion as well as my country America," said Qasim. He gave the message of "love for all, hatred for none" the motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. Qasim added that he enjoys the freedom of speech that US constitution ensures, and he does not feel threatened in the wake of events like the Times Square attempted bombing.
Moderate Muslims are taking advantage of the opportunity to clarify misconceptions about Islam. It has compelled many Muslims to condemn terror activities of some so-called Muslim groups. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has come out fully equipped to defend Islam from being associated with terrorism. They have also taken this opportunity to confirm their patriotism for their homeland, America.
The vice president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mr. Nasim Mahdi, made it very simple by saying that if one can not live in America with peace, then he must leave. No one has the permission to create disorder in a society where peace prevails. Similarly the head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth auxiliary, Dr Faheem Younis Qureshi, called on everyone, regardless of faith or ethnic origin, to join him and his organization in condemning violence.
