LAHORE: Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has confirmed 84 people killed by the terrorists in the simultaneous attacks on two Ahmadiyya mosques in Lahore on Friday, May 28, 2010.

Very quickly, it was observed, the media started calling the targeted locations as Ahmadi “place of worship” fearing the wrath of mullahs of Pakistan for addressing the buildings as 'mosques.'

According to the latest media reports, suddenly, the Aalmi Majlis-e Tahffuz-e Khatam-e Nabuwwat has sprung into action at several locations in Punjab.

Within hours of the terrorist attacks on Ahmadiyya mosques, a Khatam-e Nabuwwat meeting was held in Sargodha, only about 30 miles from the Ahmadiyya Community's headquarters in Rabwah [Chanab Nagr], Pakistan.  The Majlis has demanded immediate “removal of Qadiyanis [Ahmadis] from ‘key’ posts.” and the 'real motives' behind the Lahore incident be exposed.

The activity of the Majlis was prominently reported in Monday’s Jang which took lead in reporting on the meeting by the known anti-Ahmadiyya group: [Read here: http://ejang.jang.com.pk/5-31-2010/images/1415.gif].

Surprising to note, according to some, is the fact that Senator Sajid Mir who was elected on a PML-N ticket, chaired the meeting.

The meeting demanded 'removal of Qadiyanis from all important positions' in workplaces and demanded that “Ahmadi places of worship” resembling a mosque should be forced to change their designs.

Many from progressive corners have called such demands "absolutely absurd by the mullahs and is tantamount to spreading hatred at a time when the Ahmedis have been attacked in broad daylight."

Some have even argued that they "wish our mullas were educated enough to get to key positions in the country,” in the first place.

"PML-N’s role is also not clear at this point in time," writes Ahmed Iqbalabadi of CrticalPPP's Lets Build Pakistan Blog.

"Sajid Mir is an important Senator, PML-N is ruling Punjab and the incident [Ahmadiyya Attacks] happened in Lahore," Iqbalabadi tries to connect the dots.

Although not alleged by Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Iqbalabadi ventures as far to imply a possible connection between the support for terrorists and a particular residence in Model town belonging to a PML party leader.

"I believe one of the attacked locations is close to Nawaz Sharif’s Model Town residence," asserts Iqbalabadi. "Some sense has to prevail right now and PML-N has to play a positive role right now."

“Be a little considerate,” advises Iqbalabadi to the Jung Media Group which reported on Majlis-e Tahffuz-e Khatam-e Nabuwwat meeting in Sargodha. “We have lost more than 100 [84] good Pakistanis. Please do not rub salt on someone’s wounds.”

Allegedly, one of Jang Group’s key journalist, Hamid Mir was recently caught making derogatory statements about Ahmadis in a secretly recorded phone conversation with a Taliban operative. The Jnag Media Group never condemned the statements mad by Mir.

According to some reports, Hamid Mir is being sued by the family of a slain ISI-operative-turned-activist for Mir's alleged role in the killing.

“Some discretion is warranted from the media going forward,” says Iqbalabadi.
