The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has been urged to issue an edict outlawing bomb attacks, after a spate of attempted bomb attacks in Jakarta this week, and two suspicious packages were exploded by the police in Bandung and Makassar on Saturday.
“[The MUI has to] issue an edict stating that bombings of any kind are not allowed,” moderate Muslim Society director Zuhairi Misrawi told a discussion about the recent bomb attacks in Jakarta on Saturday.
Zuhairi said the move would discourage terrorists from carrying out bomb attacks.
It is not known who is responsible for this week’s bomb attacks.
He also suggested the government take a moderate stance in fighting terrorism so as not to inadvertently create more terrorists.
“But, the government seems to be too absorbed with combating the extremist groups,” Zuhairi said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
