Pekanbaru – A mob of several dozen from Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and Laskar Defenders of Islam (LPI) took part in sealing of the Ahmadiyya mosque located on Jalan Sudirman, Gang Ahmadi, Pekanbaru, on Tuesday.
According to ANTARA News, the mob sealed the mosque doors by nailing white-painted wooden planks and hanging banners at the the mosque entrance.
There was no resistance offered by the local Ahmadiyya community, ANTARA reported.
Feli Rizieq, an FPI Coordinator in Pekanbaru spoke to ANTARA News.
“The action is taken to support Muslim rejection of the activities of Ahmadis who still involve themselves in worship activities,” said Rizieq. “They are deviants of Islamic teachings."
"We are all Muslims and we support the FPI actions because Ahmadiyah has deviated from Islam,” Reiziq was reported to have said.
“What we are doing here is the work of Muslims. We are doing this with FPI coordination and we are ready to deal with anyone including the law," he further asserted.
The group deplored the position of Riau Governor Rusli Zainal who is ‘still being wishy-washy,’ they say.
According to ANTARA News, the governor has not been proactive in publication of regulations prohibiting the Ahmadiyah members from worship.
“He is waiting for the local elections to be held for city of Pekanbaru,” the group complained.
ANTARA News has reported that the provincial governor was urged to immediately issue a decree to ban Ahmadiyah faith by as many as 30 civil society organizations (organizations) of Islam in Riau including the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI),
"Why we seal this mosque is because until now the governor of Riau has not taken a position, therefore from this day onwards we will ensure no more activity in this Ahmadiyya mosque, " Rizieq was reported to have said.
During sealing of the Ahmadiyah mosque, FPI received police escort from the Pekanbaru Police department, ANATRA repoted.
According to ANTARA, before the Ahmadiyya mosque was sealed by FPI, members of Pekanbaru City Government had come to the location in advance and persuade local Ahamadiyah leaders to stop worshiping their faith.
David, a local Ahmadiyya leader told ANTARA News that until now the organization is still running as normal activities such as studying the Koran, school, and worship.
"In accordance with the LCS (Joint Decree) by the three ministers, we do not propagate our teachings to those who are not members of ours," he explained to ANTARA.
